And now, for the final tally...

The statistics, if you will....

Round Trip Mileage Totals:  3,805.6 Statute Miles, or, 6,124.5 Kilometers.

If you run a map route via highways, you get 2,837 miles: 3,013 via no highways.  So, the backroad routes are not much longer, and are certainly more enjoyable.

My average daily mileage was 543.6 miles, 874.9 kilometers, which may have been a bit on the heavy side.

I averaged 53.8 miles to the gallon, and consumed 65.2 gallons, at a cost of $235.95, which breaks down to a per gallon cost of $3.62.

But these are just numbers.... figures that cannot convey the fun, excitement, fear, enjoyment an sheer fun of being on the road on two wheels.

Gear Up!  It's Time To Go!

  1. Mike - nice photo recap. You had some really long days of riding but seem to have come out with a smile on your face, having dodged tornados, floods and mechanical issues. Well ridden, welcome home.

    1. Long days indeed! But, oh, so very much worth it. Thinking of next trip. Suggestions?

  2. Glad you enjoyed your trip! That "South of the Border" photo is familiar to me, haven't run up and down that coast for many years in my youth!

Now for some down time and casual riding in Maine for the summer...

  3. Thanks for the statistics Mike. My butt hurts thinking about those kind of miles per day for several days. I wouldn't have wanted to get back on the bike after the first or second one.

  4. Mike:

I don't know how you sustain 800+ kms every day. You are Hardcore Mike. I smile every time I see food photos.

Once you get the touring bug you've got to keep planning

  5. Many, many food photos. HEHE. None of pancakes! All the photos made me smile and reminisce. I'm glad you had a good time and didn't suffer catastrophic incidents. So...where do YOU think the next trip goes? Have something baking in the back of your head?

  6. Well, the answer is in the answer to the question, "Where do you two want to go?" For example.... Atlanta south and west then north and east, like so....

    1. Very doable! But what is in Demopolis to deserve such a detour??

    2. What's in any place? US! What more could a town want?

  7. What a ride Mike! I thought that was the infamous South of the Border spot. When the kids were young and we used to drive to Florida at least once a year that was probably the most memorable landmark on the I-95. That and the billboards advertising it, with tacky gems like "You never sausage a place".

  8. Hi Dave... Sorry, I didn't see this earlier.... Yup. Loved those signs. Wish I could remember them all, it would make quite a piece.
