If ya ain't here in February

Why're here in July?

Back when I was still living in my native city, I had a running partner who could only meet at six in the AM.  On a July or August morning, that wasn't so bad.  In January or February it was, to put it mildly – Brutal.

Now, the number of people we would meet on our daily excursion: running around Central Park, was inversely proportional to the temperature.  So, we came up with a rule that I'd like to implement in Maine:

If you ain't here in Central Park in February, y'all need to stay home in July.

Just Kidding...

Still....

Here's Portland Headlight in the Summer... People everywhere...

Look at the parking lot.... cars, busses, everywhere...

And here we are in December....

A little shy of vehicles and people....

So I put it to you.... If you're not here in February......

By the way, take a look at the first Lighthouse picture, then the second.  Notice the difference - other than the wreath?  It's a clear indication of what time of the year it is.  Let me know.

    my comment got truncated.

I was saying that with a little detective work, you would come up with your post of August 8th where I notice that BRW was wearing her blue turquoise top and talking to Oilburner. I also notice those bikes parked on the side with your RED "thing-a-ma-jig" so it would be July, 2012

I hope to see that same scene during July, 2013

  2. If I had to guess I'd say the wind is blowing the opposite direction judging by the flag. We'll see how good my powers of observation are. Great photos.

I have to laugh at the lack of people in December. It is like that here too. When we were out on our bikes on Thanksgiving we didn't see one other bike all day. And there aren't very many tourists at the coast right now either, just a few locals.

  3. Good eyes. Yup. In the Summer our winds are southerly - SW or, at times SE... lots of warm air.
Come very early October it shifts to the NW, bringing in cool, crisp air. When it goes to the NE all hell breaks loose.

Most bikers are gone here -- understandable, most wear tank tops and jeans, sans armor of any kind and about 85% sans helmet. Not a good outfit for the 20 degrees (-6) we are having.

Oh well, as they say in France Say La Vee.
    Ciao.

  4. I know what you mean. But that is about what you get living up there in tourist land... Only the true believers can stay there in the "bad" months. Though many people would say that it can't be bad if the tourists aren't around. :)

    1. It ain't so bad when the tourists aren't around, but the pickpocket business is definitely off.
However, there are no "bad"moths up here near Santa Land, there are only months when the sun doesn't go down and months when the sun goes on vacation.

  5. Mike:

Vancouver is a tourist destination too, even in the off season there are business travelers. There are many places we avoid during the Summer as it is just too busy and tourists drive slow because they don't know where they are going, or are lost. And then there is that parking problem which goes away during the Winter "off months".

so enjoy it now before the hordes arrive. I'm talking about the 4-wheeled hordes, not the 2-wheeled ones

  6. I suspected that most of the foliage was brown wasn't going to be the answer. Oh well, not seeing the snow threw me off.

I really like the effect of the tree shadows in the last photo. Nice.

  7. I sort of feel that way in WI, too. A lot of people brag about living in WI winters, but then you find out they spend 3/4 of it in AZ or NC or FL.

Even old timers take off to warmer climes! But I think a person should experience the good, bad and ugly. And leave the bragging rights to those of us with battle scars...

    1. That's what they are! Battle Scars! Hmmm. Now I think I'll walk around in a Tee Shirt, get those things out there for all to see.

Thanks for the camera info. Glanced at the website -I got headache - lay down with strong Martini.... That helped.
